oh me oh my
i made dinner for a few friends last night...a salad of baby greens, sicilian lentil soup with pasta and homemade bread. oh, did i forget to mention the BUTTER WITH FRESH CHIVES?
honestly, i could only be more proud if i had milked the cow and made the fucking butter myself. chives are incredibly easy to grow. they're the first thing to pop up in the spring and the last thing to go before winter. usually when i cook, you can find me in the kitchen with a handful of chives wondering where i can fit them in. this was too easy. obviously, i'm not the first person to put these two ingredients together (as my neighbor was quick to comment) but it came to me and it was fucking genius. i recommend using salted butter, about a half a stick and a fistful of chopped chives. just bring the butter to room temperature and with an electric mixer on low, whip until all creamy and delicious looking. oh, and don't forget to add some salt and pepper too.
anyway, i made another loaf of bread and we had leftovers tonight which afforded me the chance to photograph all this goodness!

not too bad for my second loaf!

do you see the steam?!

the most incredible butta evah!

mmmmm....

i am in bread and butter heaven

so why you ask, did rachel start a blog?
well, to me the answer is quite simple. it's more fun for me to play in my own world than with the rest of you...no offense.
it's not that i'm uninterested in other peoples lives, it's just that sharing it through a website such as myspace has become a total fucking drag. in my reality, myspace interferes with fate. and in my opinion, this is a very, very bad thing. yes, you can argue that myspace is a product of the technological age in which we live. BUT, i have come to the point where i just don't accept that for myself.
so, what is this blog all about? trust me, i did not create this because i think my life is interesting or to have a platform to wax poetic. and i can't predict what it could become...but, for now it's simply a place where i can show you the things that make me happy. xoxo,
rachel

snails. forest. trees.
i can't remember who said, it but there's a quote that goes "the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now." i felt like i had put it off long enough, then along came earth week and free trees were everywhere!
now of course none of these pictures have to do with trees, except the snails i found when planting them...but this is what today was like

spring!

baby hostas! i'm proud to say that i've never paid for a single hosta plant. a few years ago, when entire streets of houses were being razed to build a parking lot my mom and i did some guerilla gardening...salvaging what we could before the bulldozers made it all disappear. this year, i salvaged some seeds from last years flowers and tada! here are the babies!
